Eiffel Tower
Built by Gustave Eiffel for an 1889 exposition, many Parisians hated the tower and wanted it torn down. Now, of course, it's the symbol of Paris. Five years earlier, Eiffel designed the frame for the Statue of Liberty.

The tower is 986 feet tall--almost 100 stories.

It was assembled from 18,000 pieces of iron.

It takes 50 tons of paint to repaint it every 7 years.

You can access elevators from each of its pillars.
Eiffel gear wheels
They still use the original elevators and gears.
