Eiffel Tower
Built by Gustave
Eiffel for an 1889 exposition, many
Parisians hated the tower and wanted it
torn down.
Now, of course, it's the symbol of
Paris. Five years earlier, Eiffel
designed the frame for the Statue of
Liberty.
The tower is 986 feet tall--almost
100 stories.
It was assembled from 18,000 pieces
of iron.
It takes 50 tons of paint to repaint
it every 7 years.
You can access elevators from each
of its pillars.
